PRE-ORDER: ALDER 04 WILL BEGIN SHIPPING IN EARLY DECEMBER

Alder 04 expands on the success of its three previous issues, curating projects that build an impression of Scotland and Northern England not simply as a place with scenery, but also one with tactile potential. Alder 04 is about breadth as well as depth, with projects spanning from the Lake District to Shetland. It explores hidden gems, sensitive refurbishments and a selection of 20th Century modernism through a spectrum of scales, locations and architects.

'Alder is a quiet celebration of the aesthetic qualities specific to the climate and landscape of Scotland. People’s reason and imagination are explored in visual essay form with associated texts that provide sublime insight. Sensory experiences are central to the stories and project descriptions included. Notably, the word ‘aesthetics’ comes from a root meaning ‘having to do with the senses’ and the Greek word for sense perception ‘aiesthesis’...In total, I am reminded that the opposite of aesthetic is anaesthetic, meaning the loss of senses.
